Strong restraints help the paved surface stay true under everyday use.

A driveway style you can shape properly

Block paving is popular because it gives you more control over the look of the driveway. The colour of the blocks, the laying pattern, the border choice and the way parking bays are set out all change the final result. That makes it useful when you want the drive to tie in with brickwork, paths or a front step instead of looking dropped in as an afterthought. It's also practical. Because the surface is made up of individual units, local areas can be lifted and reset if access is needed later or if a small section starts to move.

Solid prep and tidy finishing keep it stable

Good block paving starts below the surface. We excavate to the right depth, compact the sub-base, install firm edge restraints and set the bedding layer so the blocks have proper support from the outset. We also plan falls, drainage and the relationship between the paving and door thresholds, because puddles by the entrance are nobody's idea of a tidy finish. Once laid, the blocks are jointed and compacted to lock the surface together. Ongoing care is straightforward: regular sweeping, keeping the jointing sand in good order and dealing with small movement before it spreads.

Frequently asked questions

Can single blocks be replaced if one area gets damaged?

Yes, and that's one of the practical benefits of block paving. If a local section needs access or a few blocks become damaged, those units can usually be lifted and reset or replaced without redoing the entire driveway. It's a flexible surface in that respect.

How do patterns and borders change the finished look?

The laying pattern affects how formal or relaxed the drive feels, while borders can frame the space, tie in with nearby brickwork or mark out parking areas. These details sound small, but they make a big difference to how deliberate the finished driveway looks.

What maintenance does block paving need?

Regular sweeping helps keep debris from settling, and jointing sand needs to stay in good condition so the surface remains locked together. If a small area moves, it's better to deal with it early. Minor movement is much easier to put right before it spreads.
